but i think Cantanese is more complicated than Mandarin for a kid. he may catch Mandarin pretty easily, i believe.

true, but if he is not going to live in HK, Mandarin is more widerly accepted among chinese society besides, he can always speak English in HK

我看你俩别争了，你要不嫌麻烦，和孩子说一点广东话也好啊，孩子见到外公外婆说点他们熟悉的语言老人家应该很高兴的吧。而且方言中其实有很多特殊的文化历史普通话里没有的东西，小孩子学一点我觉得也挺好的。我就想和孩子说一点贵阳话 ，剑云的小女好像也会说贵阳话的公公，婆婆。我觉得这样也挺好的。

when did you leave hk?  is your mother tongue Cantonese or Mandarin?

我堂哥哥和嫂只跟他們孩子說囯語，我的祖父母要遷就他，全家人也要遷就他，好痛苦的，廣東話不能說客家話又不能說。。。造成溝通困難，不能暢所欲言。

oh really? you told me you were from HK earlier by PM, so i thought you're from HK.
but, anyway, 4 languages for a kid is fairly good enough, though.  indeed, Mandarin is more widely used than the other dialects in the world.

我父母肯定普通话不行的，现在我都要在他们和我先生之间当翻译，郁闷死了 。还好我先生能听得懂贵阳话。

确实中国的方言真是让人头大啊。不过小孩子说一点点或者能听懂方言，说普通话我觉得也不错，技多不压身么。

I am, I was born in Shanghai, but moved to HK when I was seven yrs old, then headed to States for high school and college...

成人，還可以用身體語言阿，指手畫腳的，都可以溝通
但是和小孩子聊天，要是不能說個開心，真的很遺憾
