Overview The Italdesign wasdesigned by Giorgetto Giugiaro, one of the world's most influentialdesigners. It debuted at the 1988 Turin Auto Show. As with mostconcepts, the car was not meant to be produced but instead certainfeatures were to be incorporated into future production vehicles. TheAztec is an exception. A Japanese concern, Compakt, liked the car somuch that 255 vehicles were commissioned. The chassis and bodies werebuilt in Italy then shipped to the German Audi tuner MTM, where a 250horsepower Audi Quattro, 5-cylinder engine, was transversely installedbehind the driver. The all-wheel-drive (AWD) system used Lancia Deltacomponents. The body is a combination of steel, aluminum, fiberglassand carbon fiber. The pilot and co-pilot use headsets connected to anintercom to communicate with each other.
