July 11, 2006 – In a week packed with couture shows, private dinners, and store parties, John Galliano sent out an invite to a gig at his house—a decadent Friday afternoon of cocktails and rock looks at his Rue D'Avron headquarters. Turned out he was hosting the launch of his new secondary line, galliano, which is aimed at chicks who have the will but not the way to wear his more expensive main collection. Models gamely threw themselves into girl-band mode, wielding mics among stacks of speakers and trotting in and out of enough looks for a 20-night tour. What's in their wardrobes? For hard-core girls: androgynously sexy embossed-and-distressed leather jeans and tux jackets, ultraminis, and twisted metallic tees. For the softer chanteuse: a few pretty Empire dresses. And for the fans in the mosh pit, there's a tour T-shirt (not to mention a handbag) adorned with a photoprint of the blond-locked Mr. Galliano himself.
