The hair should be shiny and fine, like silk, straight and it should fall symmetrically on each side, parting from nose to the end of the tail. The dog should be compact and dainty. The posture must be upright. The outline should convey the impression of a powerful and proportional body.

Country of Origin: Originated in Germany in 1984 and was a piebald genetic recessive gene occurrence offspring produced by Gertrud and Werner Biewer's Yorkshire Terriers. Temperament: The Biewer Terrier is a "big dog in a small dog's body," it can be aggressive to strange dogs and small animals. They do best with older, considerate children. Biewers are easy to train, although they can sometimes be stubborn. The breed is demanding and dependant and needs a lot of human attention. Biewer is an excellent watchdog, defending its territory in no uncertain manner.

Health Issues:
The dogs are susceptible to eye irritations, tracheal collapse, premature dental disease and patellar luxation. Biewer Yorkies are prone to bronchitis and early tooth decay, poor tolerance of anaesthetic, and delicate digestion. Be sure to feed Biewer Yorkies with dry food (canned food can be added) to help keep their teeth clean and strong. They should get their teeth cleaned at the Vet to keep them from falling out and creating infection. Some puppies suffer paralysis in the hindquarters caused by herniated disks and other problems of the spine.
Living Environment: This affectionate breed is very active indoors and will do okay without a yard. Yorkies are less active than their larger terrier cousins and needs little exercise to remain happy. They are excellent for apartment life.
