Have been in the school from start to finish. EICAR is not a school, in a legal or technical sense. It is a SARL (a company registered under french law) and its ''degree'' course is not accredited by any national educational organization (non-transferable credits). That said, the school has recently moved into two brand new buildings (one in Paris, the other in Normandy) and offers the student a decent array of equipment and facilities (but no proper tracking systems, cranes or decent 35mm cameras). The school does not provide any financial assistance for shootings (even for the people selected to shoot on film), so ontop of the tuition fees be prepared to sink in 2000+ EUR per film. Whilst it is possible to shoot on film, you will only do so if selected, and in the past selection has been based on a students wealth and ability to make a film look good for the school rather than on its artistic merit. The teaching staff is a mixture of very experienced, interesting individuals, and then former students given jobs on the basis that they are liked by the administration. (Example being a 2nd Year directing teacher who only graduated two years ago). Administration is poor, but suffices to get you settled and take your money. If you go into the English section understand the school is biased in organization. For example, the availability of equipment, agreements with other schools and cinema help units always favours the French part of the school. Specifically, inter-university agreements with ENSAD (french national art college) for their set and costume students to design free costumes and sets for EICAR students, do not extend to the anglophone section. Overall, Paris is great for cinema, I would say the best city in the world for a young film maker trying to start up a portfolio. I leave after 3 years with a showreel containing bits on S8, 16, S16, 35, shot in locations from nameless nightmare cities of skyscrapers to Mont St Michel and to the North Pole. EICAR simply is what you make of it, and if you treat it as an equipment rental house, with supporting crew and facilities you will not be dissappointed.
