How is society responsible for Tyler Durden's disrupted personality?
What is life? To answer it, here comes an excellent sentence into my mind:” Life is like a box of chocolates!” everyone wants to taste it, wants to be possessed by it , but not everyone can truly feel the same taste of life. Tyler Durden, a young man who has mental problems in his life, always feels two tastes of life in his world: one is in his white world, another is in his black world. But actually, all that he has done, he has though, whenever at night or in the daytime, he can not feel which is right to do. The society slowly changed him into daytime life, but at night, he can see his real life, the real man he wants to be, full of energy, power, courage to do anything, even anything impossible, like building a fight club!
Now a real question comes into my mind, who is Tyler himself? What is his real personality? What can a true man be? Tyler who lived in his black world had mentioned that: a man isn’t his job, isn’t how much money he has in the bank, isn’t the car he drives, isn’t the contents of his wallet, a true man is the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world, who is free to anything that he’s able to do. In my opinion, I agree with him, we are living ourselves not for the others, we are living to live.
But the real life now Tyler touches in his daytime is not the ideal world he wants to own. Everything is full of pressure, full of competition, full of pretense, full of sham, everything is a copy of a copy of a copy, that’s the most ruthless part of Tyler’s life even in ours. Life is beautiful, can not be like that, something foolish,and you can't always live in your imagination. So he comes to be another person in his own mind at night, for what? Not only to fight for fun, but also to win his man’s life back. But actually and finally, he finds that he can not change his life, his life is continuing to an black end which he can’t stop it anymore, what he has done at night has let hoim follow the wrong path. He thinks that he’s slowly destroying not only his life but also the other young guys’ lives, who maybe could have another chance to change their future. This can not be his real end in his true life. So he stopped himself at night, actually, he has killed himself for disengagement. Life is life, can’t be changed easily, society is so hard to be improved into a right way. If he continues doing this again and again, what he’ll do, is to destroy other young man’s lives, which couldn’t be Tyler’s real end in his mind.
I think this film is one of the best films I’ve seen, this is a tragedy, all we can do is only thinking and thinking,but if we really want to change the society, it could be a long, long way to go!
