The only downside to that stirring victory over Tottenham at Emirates Stadium was the knee problem picked up by Abou Diaby. Remember the young French midfielder is just back from nine months out with a broken ankle. He will definitely miss the Middlesbrough game. “Diaby is out with a knee problem, twisted ligaments. He has a scan later today" confirmed Wenger.

Julio Baptista, scorer of both Arsenal goals against Tottenhamin the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final, has been ruled out with the groin injury he picked up in the latter stages of the 1-1 draw with Bolton on Sunday. “Julio Baptista will be absent for this game" confirmed Wenger, “I think he will miss the Tottenham game and the Middlesbrough game. But I hope he will be back after that."

It is still unknown how long William Gallas (thigh) will remain on the sidelines. The Frenchman has been missing since late November. “The biggest problem is to fight his impatience,” said Wenger. “He has had two setbacks because he tried to rush back. And I feel we are guilty of helping him to rush back. I will take the needed time now. My biggest worry after such a long injury is that he needs to be really ready. He should be back in two to three weeks but I still would not like to put any set time on it.”.
